Analysis (Blue prism)

Analysis (Uipath)

Development Tools How easy is the product to develop in an development environment? Blue Prism scores higher because of ease of use and some built-in functionality. The GUI interface of Blue Prism provides an easier to understand product. The UI is intuitive and this combined with the minimal need to develop Tool also includes the ability to extend functionality using .Net coding. This is rarely required. The process recording ability of UIPath is a useful tool at the start of development but the development interface is not as simple as Blue Prism.
UIPath is functional but can become difficult to follow with large processes.
Security How good is the product at dealing with security issues/ active directory/securing passwords BP support secure credentials and tie into Active Directory.  Easy to manage and control as it requires no scripting. Secure functionality for storing and supplying the credentials  used by the robots to access third party systems UI path supports secure credentials and tie into Active Directory. UIPath requires the use of the UIPath Server tool and the backend MSC for this to be included.
Security is also managed by Microsoft Systems Centre.
Audit How much of an audit trail does it provide (i.e logging it’s actions) when it’s running? How accessible is this to other tools? BP allows the saving, reporting and extraction of reporting data. It also allows more control on what is audited and to what level. Provides 3rd party reporting tools the ability to access to the audit data without compromising security.
Detail and flexibility of logging errors and handling exceptions. This means many faults or outcomes can be pre-empted with appropriate remedial actions or alerts defined.  Logging levels are configurable to support troubleshooting, MI reporting or low impact processing.
Uipath allows the saving, reporting and extraction of reporting data. UIPath provides more reports with the product. It also access to the audit data to 3rd party reporting tools.
Logging errors and handling exceptions are included in the tool but are not as flexible as other products. Logging levels are configurable to support troubleshooting, MI reporting or low impact processing.
Commercials How Much does it Cost Base Price is £8000 per robot.
With Blue Prism, you are paying for its strength in functionality.
£640- £2600 per Robot (depending on complexity)    + £1900-£3200 for licence
Compatibility How well does it interface with other tools The latest release of Blue Prism includes OCR using the Google Tesseract product. Citrix should still be avoided unless there was no other option. UI Path’s interacts with applications in a similar way to BP. It also includes an OCR package for use with Citrix. Citrix should still be avoided unless there was no other option.
Environment management How well does the product work between environments? How well does it mange migration, source code management? Includes functionality to create and compare releases that contains all the required files. Processes can be grouped into releases within the tool and these can be exported for inclusion into any source management tool. UIPath relies on 3rd party tools to provide this functionality.
Functionality What Can the Tool do? BP can interact with many different applications and technologies applications Whilst Blue Prism includes a wide variety of functions, it also allows additional components to be developed if required.
Central Management tools are all included in the Blue Prism software. The only additional requirement is a SQL Server database.
Blue Prism provides an interface to allow external applications to initiate a process.
The functionality and capability of UIPath’s processes is very similar to BP. UIPath allows external applications to use APIs to access the robots and work queues using a variety of methods.
Tool does include the ability to extend functionality using .Net coding. This is required as the tool does not include all the rich functionality of Blue Prism.
The UI is not as intuitive as Blue Prism and this combined with the need to develop extensions to the tool means that this is a tool for use by an IT department.
Governance How well does it manage changes to tools/ governance of the development/monitoring versions of a process (General performance) Blue Prism allow tracking of all changes and provides tools to compare the versions. The tool includes a flexible (.i.e can be altered to record as much or as little as required) audit log that provides a running commentary on all the operations of each robot. UIPath relies of 3rd Party tools to do this work.
Reporting What sort of reporting does it include? What sort of access does it give to external tools for reporting purposes? What sort of reporting does it include? What sort of access does it give to external tools for reporting purposes? UIpath is able store the process run data centrally and can be accessed by external tools.
It also comes with more built-in reports than BP.
Full logging of all actions taken by the robots.
Elastic search – analytics
Supportability How easy is it to support? Where is the support? (.i.e Does it require Microsoft etc.) Blue Prism supports the whole product and provide a single point of escalation with the product. A single installation package is used for all the components (except the installation of the database). UIPath server components are built on Microsoft components. UIPath also requires scripting knowledge to deploy and support.
Resilience How easy is disaster recovery? In general how strong is the architecture? How strong are the products itself? The Blue Prism architecture and design make the makes the implementation of resilience and DR straightforward.
The design of the processes is key in ensure the processes are resilient. Blue Prism provides the tools to make necessary to minimize issue and handle exceptions.
UIPath can be integrated with the Microsoft Azure platform in in that case, that platform handles the resilience of the server tools.
